Uber Eats is facing criticism for a peanut allergy joke that is part of its Super Bowl commercial. See if you can catch it:
The offending moment comes when the commercial, entitled "Don't Forget Uber Eats," show a brief snippet of a man forgetting he has a peanut allergy as he eats peanut butter.
The commercial originally got attention because it featured "Friends" co-stars Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer, and David and Victoria Beckham.
But the subject of peanut allergies is top of mind at the moment, following the death from anaphylactic shock of a young woman who ate cookies purchased at Stew Leonard's that was not properly labeled as containing peanuts. (The retailer and manufacturer are at odds over which one is responsible.)
- KC's View:
Whether this is bad timing or just unintentionally thoughtless - or both - is almost beside the point. Uber Eats is under pressure to edit the commercial, but it remains to be seen whether it can or will make that happen. (FanDuel Sportsbook apparently is editing its Super Bowl commercial because of the recent passing of Carl Weathers, who played a prominent part in the spot. So anything is possible.)
