Content Guy's Note:  Because of his travel schedule, Michael Sansolo couldn't contribute his usual column today.  But he did have time to engage in a video conversation with me about a book that he recently read that, while it was not about retailing, offered numerous applicable business lessons.

"The Times: How the Newspaper of Record Survived Scandal, Scorn, and the Transformation of Journalism," by Adam Nagourney, is a fascinating look at how the New York Times has evolved - sometimes in fits and starts - over the past four decades, especially has it concerns adjusting to the digital economy. Michael argues that the Times' online transformation process is remarkably similar to that experienced by many retailers as they shift from being store-focused to omnichannel.  And, Michael suggests, it is possible to learn lessons from the Times' history even if you don't like the Times.  (Full disclosure:  As two people who started their careers in daily journalism, both Michael and I like the Times very much, warts and all.)
