business news in context, analysis with attitude

MNB reported yesterday that Winn-Dixie has named Dan Portnoy, the former president/CEO of Kings Super Markets in New Jersey, to be its new vice president and chief merchandising and marketing officer. And I wrote, Portnoy succeeds Tim Robbins, who is retiring.

However, I either misread the news story about the announcement, the original story got it wrong, or need new glasses.

Because Tim Robbins’ first name actually is Tom – or so I’ve been told by a dozen or more folks who wrote in yesterday.

Which is too bad, because when I thought Tom was Tim, it allowed me to joke that “I’d retire, too, if I had Susan Sarandon waiting at home for me.”

Good joke, inaccurate news story.

Life is full of trade-offs.
