business news in context, analysis with attitude

The New Mexico Business Weekly reports that California-based Raley’s, which entered the New Mexico market in 1999, now will exit the state by selling nine stores and one non-operating site there to Albertsons LLC.

"We decided to sell our New Mexico stores so we can focus our energy and efforts on our core markets in Northern California, the Bay Area and Northern Nevada," said Bill Coyne, Raley's president/CEO, in a prepared statement. "It was a difficult decision because our incredible employees in New Mexico have worked hard to make those stores successful and memorable for customers, but it is a decision that will bring further strength and continued growth to our company."

Most of the units are in Albuquerque. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, and the transaction is expected to be completed by August.
