business news in context, analysis with attitude

Best Buy, the electronics retailer, announced that it will expand its specialty mobile phone stores – called Best Buy Mobile – from a dozen to close to 200, with units in 12 states and markets that include metropolitan areas such as Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Washington and Raleigh-Durham. About 170 of them will be inside Best Buy stores, but the rest will be stand-alone units.
KC's View:
We just found this story interesting because it illustrates what we think to be the coming trend in retailing – isolating specific parts of the store and opening them in non-traditional locations. Especially for supermarkets, which are concerned about losing market share to non-traditional competitors, such an approach will help them fight back.

“Compete” is a verb.
