• McDonald’s announced that it will feature a promotion keyed to the new animated movie, “Shrek the Third,” in trying to get kids to eat fruits, vegetables and milk served in its fast food restaurants. The move reflects both the fast feeder’s changed approach to product assortment and a growing awareness that it needed to change its image in view of the nation’s child obesity epidemic.

• The Wall Street Journal reports this morning that there is speculation in the UK about a possible bid by private equity groups to acquire William Morrison Supermarkets there, the nation’s fourth ranked grocery chain. Part of the speculation seems to stem from the recent failure by equity groups to acquire Sainsbury.
