The Chicago Tribune reports that Safeway CEO Steve Burd has gone on the record: the company’s Dominick’s chain is not for sale.

However, Burd also tells the Tribune that Safeway will focus on renovating Dominick’s existing store fleet of 83 units, not expanding the size of the chain.

According to the story, “Burd said he was not concerned that Dominick's only has a 15 percent market share in the Chicago area, while Supervalu-owned Jewel-Osco has nearly a 45 percent market share. ‘We can make money with a 15 percent share,’ he said.”
