• Wild Oats, in the process of being acquired by Whole Foods, announced that its first quarter profits were $1.6 million, down from $2.9 million during the same period a year ago. Q1 sales rose 3.9 percent to $309.9 million, while same-store sales were up just 0.3 percent.

• Second quarter sales at Harris Teeter increased 12.7 percent to $805.6 million from the same period last year. Q2 operating profit at Harris Teeter increased 16.9 percent to $38.2 million.

• Starbucks reported that its second quarter net income was $150.8 million, up from $127.3 million in the period last year. Revenue for the latest quarter rose 20 percent, to $2.26 billion, compared with $1.89 billion last year. Same-store sales were up four percent.

• Rite Aid reported that its April sales increased 2.6 percent to $1.36 billion, from $1.33 billion in the prior year. Same-store sales for the month were up 2.1 percent.
