business news in context, analysis with attitude

USA Today reports that the state of Connecticut “has seized hundreds of cases of an energy drink called Cocaine and accused the Las Vegas company that produces it of not licensing it as required by law.”

This is sort of like getting Al Capone for tax evasion. The state isn’t going after Redux Beverages, the manufacturer, for making a product that is morally reprehensible for seeming to promote an illegal drug to young people. Rather, it is charging Redux with not indicating on the label where the water in the beverage comes from – which is against state law.

Redux Beverages says that the state is engaged in the selective enforcement of an obscure law.

Which makes us, as a resident of Connecticut, proud.

If sending them to hell isn’t an option, the government needs to do whatever is possible to get this crap off the market.
