The Ocean County Register reports that “Albertsons employees represented by the supermarket workers' union will vote Sunday on whether to give their leaders authorization to call a strike, a union spokesman said Tuesday.

“If approved, no strike would occur before April 9, when the current contract extension runs out.”

MNB reported yesterday that Southern California’s three major supermarket chains - Albertsons, Safeway (which owns Vons there) and Kroger (which owns Ralphs) - have reached an agreement with the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) to extend their labor agreements until April 9 as the two sides continue to negotiate a new contract. The extension, according to reports, will continue on a day-to-day basis after April 9 until either party decides to walk away from the negotiating table.
