• Wal-Mart said that its February net sales rose 8.1 percent to $26.79 billion, with same-store sales up a lower than expected 0.9 percent. Same-store sales increased 0.4 percent at Wal-Mart stores and 3.9 percent at Sam's Club.

• Target Corp. said its February sales rose 10.7 percent to $4.13 billion from $3.73 billion during the same period last year, with same-store sales up 5.7 percent.

• France-based Carrefour reports that its 2006 net profit was up 58 percent to the equivalent of $2.8 billion. However, most of this profit was attributable to sales of stores – when factored out, profit was up just 3.3 percent to $2.48 billion.

• PriceSmart, which owns and operates US-style membership shopping warehouse clubs in Central America and the Caribbean, reported that its February net sales increased 20.6 percent to $63.3 million from $52.5 million in February a year earlier.
