• The judge overseeing the Winn-Dixie bankruptcy proceedings has ruled against the reinstatement of an equity committee set up to represent the interests of the company’s shareholders during its bankruptcy proceedings.
Winn-Dixie already has said that when it emerges from Chapter 11 protection, probably later this year, it is “relatively clear” that there will be no “meaningful recovery” by existing shareholders of money lost on the company to this point.
And this sort of cements the deal.
• A new study published in the New England Journal of Medicine says that saw palmetto, an herbal supplement often taken to prevent prostate problems, is largely ineffective. The study was sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Saw palmetto is the third best-selling herbal supplement in the US, exceeded only by garlic and Echinacea.
