  • Target Corp. reported that December sales were up 11.3 percent to $7.55 billion, with same store sales up 5.1 percent, exceeding analysts’ expectations.


  • BJ's Wholesale Club Inc. reported that its December sales were up nine percent to $924.4 million compared to a year ago, with same-store sales up 5.6 percent.


  • Dollar General Corp. reported that its December sales were $1.01 billion, up 10.5 percent over the previous December’s $911 million in sales. Same-store sales were up 1.7 percent.


  • The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company reported that sales for the third quarter were $2.52 billion, compared with $2.48 billion in the third quarter of fiscal 2003. Same-store sales for the quarter were down one percent. The company lost $73 million during the quarter, the same as the loss suffered by the company during the same period a year ago.

    Year to date sales for A&P were $8.29 billion versus $8.18 billion in fiscal year 2003, but same-store sales were off 0.1 percent.


  • Longs Drug Stores reported December total sales of $512.6 million, a three percent decrease from sales of $528.3 million in the comparable period a year ago. Same store sales were off 3.4 percent.
