business news in context, analysis with attitude

Whole Foods announced that to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its founding, it is establishing the Animal Compassion Foundation to further raise the bar
beyond strict animal welfare standards already required by the company.

The company describes the foundation’s mission providing “education and research services to assist and inspire ranchers and meat producers around the world to achieve a higher standard of animal welfare excellence while still maintaining economic viability. The Foundation will create an exchange of best practices for meat producers throughout the world to learn about animal husbandry techniques that fully support the animal's physical needs, natural behaviors, and well-being.”

In addition, Whole Foods plans to donate five percent of its global sales on Tuesday, January 25 as seed money to establish the foundation.
KC's View:
One of the things that Whole Foods does very well is it remains absolutely consistent in its approach to business. The people who shop Whole Foods will be absolutely sympathetic to this initiative…it is good business as well as doing good.
