business news in context, analysis with attitude

President Bush yesterday nominated Michael Leavitt, head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to replace Tommy Thompson as secretary of Health and Human Services.

If confirmed by the US Senate, Leavitt, the former governor of Utah, will take over for the man who said upon resigning the job that he was surprised that terrorists had not attacked the nation’s food supply because it would be so simple to do so.
KC's View:
If we were in the Senate – and trust us, the nation at large should be very glad that we’re not – the first question we’d ask Leavitt how he intends to fix the problem that Thompson alluded to.

And he’d better have an answer. A good one.
