The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that management at Roundy’s has told its 20,000 employees via a memo that the company is not being bought by Kroger, despite rumors that have circulated for months.

“There’s no credibility to this rumor,” said spokesperson Lynn Guyer.

The speculation had gained momentum because Roundy’s has been owned since 2002 by an investment company that usually sells its retail holdings within four to seven years.

Does it strike anyone else that this seems like a fairly qualified denial…as in all it means is that specifically Kroger is not buying Roundy’s now?
