Just a day after the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) and the three major chains in the San Francisco Bay Area – Safeway, Albertsons, and Kroger’s Ralphs – agreed to extend an expiring contract until January 15, 2005, the UFCW has decided to push customers to boycott the chains in the negotiations break down.

According to the UFCW, more than 75,000 such pledge cards already have been collected from consumers.

We can’t figure out where this thing is headed…toward the kinds of resolutions that have taken place in other markets around the country, or toward the kind of debacle that wrecked the Southern California market a year ago.
