  • Published reports say that Wal-Mart’s e-commerce site crashed yesterday and went offline for close to an hour. It was the such online breakdown in a week – Amazon.com reportedly had a more serious breakdown on Monday. Both sites are now up and running.


  • Amazon.com has announced that its UK operations will begin offering a Netflix-style DVD rental service, a move that is expected to eventually be expanded to include the US market.

    "Amazon is determined to be the best place to rent DVDs -- online or off," said CEO Jeff Bezos.

    Also in the market here in the US, in addition to Netflix are Wal-Mart and Blockbuster.


  • Tesco announced that its e-grocery sales have increased by 27 percent for the first half of its fiscal year, and are contributing profit to the overall bottom line.
