Lunds, the estimable Minnesota retailer, has decided to open two stores in downtown Minneapolis next year, after more than a decade of considering how to best make a move into the urban center.

The stores will be about 15,000 square feet and 12,000 square feet, smaller than the traditional 20,000 square foot stores that the company is used to running. The city hopes that the units, which will occupy historical sites, will bring a level of energy and traffic to the downtown area.
