The Detroit News reports on a new Kroger store in the city, which is attempting to give the retailer an edge in the pitched battle for market share that is being waged by Kroger, Farmer Jack and Meijer…with Wal-Mart expected to join the downtown fray soon.

The new Livonia Square Kroger – scheduled to have its grand re-opening in just a few weeks - features a sushi bar, Starbucks Coffee outlet, and a walk-in floral cooler, according to the paper. “The Kroger renovation project will expand the store from 55,000 square feet to nearly 69,000 square feet with increased space for wine, books, magazines and other items,” as well as an in-store concept called The Kitchen Place that sells small appliances and housewares.
