business news in context, analysis with attitude

The Detroit News reports that Kmart’s new president/CEO Aylwin Lewis is taking a four-month road trip, visiting 120 of the company’s stores and engaging in conversation with customers, vendors and retailing experts as he attempts to develop a strategy for the troubled retailer.

"At the end of this effort, we will have a strong point-of-view on our customer target, the quality of our leadership team and the best way for all of us to support our field organization," Lewis wrote in the e-mail obtained by the paper. "This in turn, will allow us to create a vision for our company's future, a strategic framework for growth, a roadmap for true cultural change and a multi-year operating plan to act as a guiding post for the future of our business."
