  • Publix Supermarkets has reported third quarter net earnings of approximately $183.7 million, compared with $134.6 million in 2003, an increase of 36.5 percent. Publix's sales for the third quarter reached approximately $4.6 billion, a 14.5 percent increase from last year's $4.0 billion. Same store sales were up 4.6 percent.

    Publix’s sales for the first nine months of 2004 were approximately $13.8 billion, a 10.8 percent increase from last year's $12.4 billion. Net earnings for the nine months were $586.5 million, compared with $483.2 million in 2003, an increase of 21.4 percent.


  • Walgreen Co. reported that October sales were up 11.8 percent to $3.35 billion compared to the same period a year ago. Same-store sales were up 8.1 percent.


  • Rite Aid posted October sales of $1.26 billion, up 0.1 percent from the same period a year ago. Same store sales for the period were up 0.3 percent.
