Whole Foods chairman John Mackey tells the Financial Times that his company plans to open superstores in central London, and is seeking sites in suburbs that include Hampstead, Notting Hill and Fulham.

The company acquired Fresh & Wild, an eight-store organic food chain, earlier this year as a quick way to gain access to the market. Mackey says that if the UK effort is a success, other European countries could seek Whole Foods stores, including France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands.
