Published reports say that Kroger Co. employees in the Cincinnati area have rejected a contract offer from the company and authorized the union to call a strike, which could happen as soon as tomorrow night.

The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union represents some 8,500 employees who work at 70 Kroger units in the Cincinnati area.

Both sides are expected to return to the negotiating table. The main sticking point in the talks is the cost of health care for the union members.
