business news in context, analysis with attitude

The US Supreme Court has agreed to consider a case that could affect whether or not wineries are able to ship products directly to consumers in all 50 states.

The states of New York and Michigan say that they should be allowed to prohibit such shipments because the 21st amendment enables them to regulate alcohol sales. Opponents, however, say that obstacles to interstate commerce are unconstitutional.
KC's View:
Lifting of these artificially imposed bans would only help consumers have a greater amount of choice and help smaller companies sell their wares in a more open environment. This would be good for almost everyone, except big companies that want to control the marketplace.

We vote for lifting the bans. (Not that the Supremes are asking us…)
