  • Ahold announced that Andrew Parkinson has been named president of Peapod, the company’s Internet grocery provider, effective immediately. Parkinson, who founded Peapod with his brother in 1989 and most recently has served as CFO, is replacing Marc van Gelder, who is returning to the Nethlerlands.

  • Whole Foods Market has named to co-presidents, A.C. Gallo and Walter Robb, who have been sharing the jobs of COO/executive vice president of operations. The company’s presidency has been held by John Mackey, who remains Whole Foods’ chairman and chief executive officer.

    Lee Valkenaar was named by Whole Foods to the newly created position of executive vice president of retail support.

    As part of the reorganization, Whole Foods also split its Southwest Region into the Southwest and Rocky Mountain Regions, and its Northern Pacific Regions into the Northern California and Pacific Northwest Regions.

  • The General Merchandise Distributors Council (GMDC) announced that Dan Nelson, a former executive at Dial Corp., is joining the organization as COO/senior vice president of business development and marketing.
