A new survey reveals that UK retailer Tesco has grown its market share there to 28.1 percent, up from 26.7 percent a year ago.

Wal-Mart’s Asda Group’s share grew to 16.5 percent from 16.1 percent a year ago, while Sainsbury saw a decline to 15.5 percent from 16.3 percent.

William Morrison Supermarkets continues to see problems connected to its acquisition of Safeway Plc. The Morrisons/Safeway combo has a 13.9 percent market share, down from what would have been 14.7 percent a year ago. Morrison’s share actually has gone up, to 6.3 percent from 5.8 percent, but Safeway has been a drag, dropping from nine percent to 7.6 percent.
