  • Rite Aid Corporation reported that for the five weeks ended May 29, 2004, same store sales rose 4.8 percent over the prior-year period. Pharmacy same store sales were up 4.9 percent, while front-end same store sales were up 4.6 percent.

    Total drugstore sales for the five-week period rose 4.4 percent to $1.636 billion compared to $1.567 billion for the same period last year. Prescription revenue accounted for 64.1 percent of drugstore sales, and third party prescription revenue represented 93.8 percent of pharmacy sales.

    First quarter same store sales increased 5.3 percent, consisting of a 5.4 percent pharmacy same store sales increase and a 5.2 percent increase in front-end same store sales. Total drugstore sales for the quarter gained 4.9 percent to $4.226 billion from $4.029 billion in last year's first quarter.
