business news in context, analysis with attitude

  • Dale Riley, vice president and general manager of Roundy’s Minnesota retailing operations, including its Rainbow Foods stores, has resigned from the company, citing personal circumstances. The resignation is effective today. Bob Mariano, Roundy’s chairman/CEO, accepted the resignation with regret.

Riley, the former COO at Kowalski’s and a near-three decade veteran of Lund’s and Byerly’s, joined Roundy’s after it acquired Rainbow Foods from Fleming last year. The company has had trouble getting any sort of traction in the Twin Cities, where Cub Foods has more than twice its market share.

KC's View:
We’ve known Dale Riley for a number of years, since the time more than a decade ago when we shot a video at one of the terrific stores he was running for Byerly’s. He’s a great guy, a straight shooter, and we hope he finds his way back to the food industry soon.
