business news in context, analysis with attitude

The Chicago Tribune reports that Sears has opened its second "Grand" format store, in Gurnee, Illinois, featuring grocery, dairy and frozen foods departments in a 201,000-sq.-ft. footprint.

The company hopes to have five such stores by the end of next year.

The question, however, is whether this is too little too late, and if Sears is too far behind Wal-Mart's growth curve to have any impact.
