Russia has decided to expand its ban on US poultry to include virtually all products and feed from Maryland. Up to this point, Russia has banned poultry products only from Texas and Delaware.

The move came after a new outbreak of avian flu, albeit a strain of the disease not considered to be harmful to humans.

Meanwhile, Japan has decided to ban all poultry imports from Canada after it was revealed that a second, more virulent strain of the avian flu virus was found in British Columbia. The decision came just days after Japanese authorities had lifted a ban on Canadian poultry imposed in February.
