The Food Marketing Institute (FMI) and Grocery Manufacturers of America (GMA) have signed a deal with eBay that will limit the sale of CPG coupons on the Internet.

Disagreements between the trade associations and their members broke out with eBay last year when fraudulent Internet-generated coupons became a serious problem for retailers and manufacturers. The new deal will create a "Food and Wine" coupon subcategory on eBay's site, as well as sections for HBC and gift certificate coupons. The deal has eBay agreeing to ban the sale of expired, electronic and bulk coupons on its auction site.

Also limited are the sale of "free product, no purchase required" coupons to no more than two per listing, and home-printed Internet coupons to no more than two per listing.
