In a victory for the US biotechnology industry, the Chinese government has given the nod to the import of bio-engineered crops.

The New York Times reports that "the Chinese Agriculture Ministry…granted safety certificates for five of seven crops submitted by Monsanto, an American producer of genetically engineered seeds: a soybean variety, two kinds of corn and two kinds of cotton."

The deal, according to experts, will make it easier for US companies to export food to China.
