business news in context, analysis with attitude

If you want to watch a wonderful movie, go out and rent a New Zealand film called "Whale Rider." This is a fabulous movie about a young girl who is the future of a troubled Maori tribe, but who is not recognized as such because of her gender. It is beautifully shot, written without sentimentality, and has some wonderful performances - not least of which is that of Keisha Castle-Hughes, who plays the girl and has been nominated for as Oscar for her charming, plucky performance.

We watched it with our daughter the other night…and it was a great experience for both of us.

As for the wine beat…

We recently had a chance to taste a flight of Syrahs, which were wonderful for lots of different reasons.

Our favorite of the three was a 2001 Brown Brothers Shiraz from Australia, which was deep and rich and fruity - just great.

Our close second (and Mrs. Content Guy's favorite of the three) was a 2001 caves Le Vin de Roquebrun Covee Roches Noires Saint Chinian - which we can't pronounce, but liked a lot. This French wine was just a bit lighter than the Australian…but no less full bodied and delicious.

Finally, we also liked a 2000 Steele Lake County Syrah, which seemed a little less complex than the other two, but you could taste the fruit and coffee and caramel…and again, was a great choice.

Wonderful stuff…and a helluva way to make a living.
