business news in context, analysis with attitude

The Chicago Sun-Times reports this morning that specialty food retailer Trader Joe's, which currently operates a dozen stores in the Windy City region, plans to open an additional five stores there by the end of 2005.

The company said that the new units will be built in some of the city's hottest neighborhoods, such as the South Loop, River North, and Streeterville.

Two of Trader Joe's existing Chicago stores are on the city's North Side, and 10 are in the suburbs.
KC's View:
Lucky Chicago. Trader Joe's cannot be praised enough for its smart approach to selection, price, and willingness to embrace nutritional information as creating a differential advantage.
