- Drug Store News reports that 12 years after abandoning the Southern California market, CVS plans to open 15 to 20 stores in the greater Los Angeles/Orange County area.
- Reports in the British media say that Wal-Mart's Asda Group plans to introduce an own-label credit card that will compete with those offered by Tesco, Sainsbury, and Marks & Spencer.
Asda currently sells home, motor and travel insurance, but this is its first foray into personal banking.
- Dow Jones reports that Dutch retailer Royal Ahold, still reeling from a billion-dollar accounting scandal, will present a proposal for a new corporate governance code to its shareholders at a meeting next month.
The new rules will cover changes to the company's supervisory board as well as compensation issues.
