Published reports say that the UK Office of Fair Trading has decided to ask the nation's Competition Commission to look at Tesco's already-completed acquisition of Co-op stores in Slough, Berkshire, because of concerns that it has reduced competition in the area because Tesco already had a store there.

Tesco has said that it will sell the store in order to alleviate concerns.

It sounds as if we're going to hear a lot more about these kinds of antitrust issues in the UK, which is why the Morrison acquisition of Safeway Plc is such a good idea.
