Tesco will acquire UK convenience store operator T&S for the equivalent of about $587 million (US). Tesco will control about half of the company’s 862 retail units, while the rest remain under independent management.

Tesco's share of the UK convenience retail market is now about five percent.

The company has said it wants to have 1,000 units operating under the Tesco Express banner in five years.
